There is a special artisan in San Antonino de Castillo town who works with red clay. Our friend Jose Antonio got blind unfortunately at the age of 55 years, but he has eyes on his both hands now, like he said. Making beautiful red pottery pieces for decoration like planters, glasses, cups and his favourite pieces, mermaids of different sizes.

Rodolfo Morales was a famous pinter who worked on the reconstruction of different churches around the souther valley of Oaxaca. He organized  group of women, teaching them how to Paint and work with Barroco style frames for old paitings, mirrors and also how to work with silver and gold leaf. We visit this small workshop and see how they work beautiful pieces like mirrors of different sizes, frames, decoratives wall pieces, combs etc.

The most famous handicraft of Oaxaca is made here, “Los Alebrijes” The original Alebrijes are from Mexico city, but in Oaxaca they took the original idea to another level Carving and painting the animals with zapotec designs. Visiting a workshop in this town is magical and mysterious, you can even know what your spiritual animal is. These colorful and crazy creatures are definitely somthing you can not miss.

People gets confused frequently with the pottery the restaurants use in the oaxaca city, they think that one comes from the Black pottery town but the true is all that pottery comes from Atzompa town. They work here making utilitarian dark pottery like plates, bowls, glasses, cups, shots for mezcal with zapotec small faces using prehispanic tecniques .
